The small town of Ellijay has been known for decades as the Apple Capital of Georgia. Every October it is home to the Apple Festival which brings thousands of visitors to the North Georgia area. However, Gilmer has transformed from apples to wine country over the last decade!
I recently discovered a hidden gem in the North Georgia area, Buckley Vineyards, located less than 10 miles from Ellijay.
I have visited several of the larger vineyards/wineries such as Engelheim and Ott; however, this small winery tucked away on a quiet road really took me by surprise. It is located at 708 Henry Evans Road in Ellijay, GA on the same road as Ott Vineyard. They are open 7 days a week.
The winery has plenty of parking, a clean exterior with outdoor seating, and a stage nearby for their larger performances. The inside of the space has a clean feel. The brick walls inside contrast nicely with the farmhouse style white walls. The black ceiling and accents throughout really pull the space together. It has a modern but classic feel that made me fall in love with it immediately.
There was an excellent food truck named Get Skewers that had excellent kabobs (they made me a dairy free kabob which I really appreciate) and live music was playing.
I had one glass of The Frank, a rich cabernet sauvignon, that was flavorful and excellent. They have many additional options that they display on their large board and beer is also available for the wine aversed. I am a red wine lover and this glass hit the spot! The space was packed when I visited, but they had plenty of seating inside on the lower and upper level of the space and plenty of seating and tables outside.
They have a wide variety of live music which you can find by visiting their website or instagram! I will definitely be back to Buckley soon to try more of their wine! If you are in the Ellijay area you should definitely check this place out!
